POOJA ROOM


Universe is one of the beautiful creations of nature and everything stands alive only in the limelight of truth. Just like every subject of human aspect is governed with rules, regulations & acts, similarly the art of worshipping has got certain key factor principles to attain all its benefits.

While planning a house, due to the space constraints, many people tend to ignore a separate pooja room but we must not sideline the need to make a place for GOD. Thus by creating a room for worshipping, we are creating a room to get charged with positive vibrations every morning and that energy will energize our environment, mind, body and soul. Our work efficiency will increase and so the progress, prosperity and peace.

This room should be designed carefully because when you do meditation, you should gain the positive energies and then you can feel charged. If it is in wrong direction, then no matter how much meditation you do, you will not feel charged. There are certain rules which one must follow before the commencement of designing a pooja room.
  • The pooja room should always be situated in the NorthEast or the Northeast side of the house.
  • One should face towards East/North while worshipping.
  • Ideally there should be no idols in the worship room. But if one wish to keep, the height of the idol should not be more than 9"and less than 2".
  • Vastu for Pooja Room
  • While worshipping, the legs of the idol should be at the chest level of the person worshipping depending on the position, whether standing or sitting.
  • Nothing should be stored above the cabinet or slab here the God's idol is placed.
  • A Pooja room should never be made in a bedroom or on a wall adjacent to the bathroom wall.
  • One shall not enter the pooja room for any purpose without washing his legs and hands. Cleaning the feet by rubbing them against each other is prohibited. The left hand must clean them and the water must be poured by the right hand. Reared side of the feet must always be cleaned first.
  • In pooja room, copper vessels only shall be used particularly where water is collected.
  • Triangular pattern of any God should not be drawn in the Pujaghar.
  • The colour of walls of pooja room should be white, lemon or light blue and the marble used should be white.
  • The worship room should have doors and windows in the north or the east
  • The Agnikund should be in the southeast direction of the worship room. The sacred offerings to the fire should be made with the face towards the east
  • Lamp stand should be placed in the Southeast corner of the pooja room.

PLANTS


Plants and trees too play a pivotal role in making our surroundings apt and energized. But some plants and trees are prohibited in living place due to their interrelation with science and mythology. Plants have direct relation with human life because whatever the plants emit in the form of gas is been inhaled by humans. Some plants and trees emit negative vibes and harmful gases which pollutes our environment, thus making it unsafe.

Plants and trees must be chosen with care and planted in proper direction in order to draw good results. According to Vastu there are some specific plants which are considered auspicious for homes must be only planted with Vastu compliant direction to get the maximum benefit. Nature does affect us in every way, so to draw good benefits we must plant specific trees in home.

Vastu for PlantsAccording to Vastu Shastra plants and trees considered auspicious for every home are:
  • Tulsi (Basil) is a sacred plant that every living place must plant as it is not only auspicious but potent plant as well. Make sure you plant tulsi in North, North-east or East direction.
  • Banyan and peeple tree are sacred in Hinduism and must be planted in temple instead of home.
  • Avoid planting trees in extreme front & centre of your house, as they should not obstruct the entrance.
  • Huge trees must be planted in South or West portion of house. They must be grown somewhere in the house so that they get enough sunlight without blocking it for inmates.
  • Small trees are better to be grown in East or North but avoid North-east direction for planting any kind of tree.
  • Thorny plants including cactus are prohibited in house exception of Rose plant.
  • Creepers are good to be installed at entrance of house or exteriors. But ensure that they are not raised above compound wall.
  • Milk giving plants should be avoided in living place as they are inauspicious for homes and effect health of occupants.
  • Fruit bearing Trees like Aam, Jamun, Kela; milk bearing trees like Mahua, Peeple, Vata; and thorn plants like babool, ber, katari etc are prohibited to plant in house.
  • Some auspicious trees & plants to be planted in house are: Anaar (Pomegranate), Dal chini (cinnamon), Nariyal (coconut), Ashoka, Arishta, Rose, Punnag, Bakul, Chameli, Kesar and Champa.

PATIO VERANDA

An open space to idealize the leisure time with family and friends is mainly called patio or Verandah. Open space is very ideal for house but with the increasing trends and short of space people avoid verandahs. However this place is important from radical and scientific point of view and both are important elements in Vastu. According to Vastu, verandah is important in every house because open space invite morning sunlight which is essential for health and wellbeing. 

Some ideal positions to have open patio/verandah and relative norms are as follows:

  • Ideal place for verandah is North or East because scientifically morning sunlight which is food for human beings is important and east is the source of sunlight, thus this direction is best for open patio/verandah.
  • North and East direction should be dealt with minimal things and avoid placing heavy furniture or other things in these corners because sunlight stream here to light up. All the heavy things should be placed in South-west.
  • Plants in verandah should be grown in North-east as this corner receives constant sunlight which is essential for plants to thrive.
  • Do not cut or round the corners of verandah.
  • Keep the height of verandah less than main roof of home.
  • Ideally a verandah either should be open or if roof is made then it should be cemented rather than tin.
  • Keep maximum windows in verandah or open patio to allow the natural light and air pass through the house to refresh.

LOCKER ROOM

Cash and valuables need to be keep at safe place and according to Vastu South-west portion is ideal to incorporate a locker for prized valuables and treasures. Although North is said to be governed by Lord of wealth- Kuber, still South-west is recommended for keeping cash and other treasures safely. The reason behind is determined as North is a place for stability but doesn’t certainly assures with safety of valuables if we keep it here.
    Vastu for Locker Room
  • The positioning of locker or safe for valuables should always be in South-west but facing North in other words the locker or safe should open towards theNorth for better security and safety.
  • The locker should not be visible to people coming in the house and ensure that it must have some concrete or solid foundation.
  • Treasure safe should be of four legs and strong for better safety.
  • It should be placed in the farthest corner of South-west so that it can’t be visible to any person.
  • The room used for treasure or safe should not be used for storage purpose.
  • Keep the locker room tidy and clutter free to invite more wealth.
  • Avoid placing any deity or idol in the valuable room or you can just put a smallmirror in the valuable/cash box to reflect the money.
  • Height of this room should be equal to other rooms and shape should be regular either square or rectangle.

KITCHEN

  • The fridge should be in placed in the Southwest corner of the kitchen.
  • A dishwasher can be placed in the north west of the kitchen.
  • The exhaust fan should be installed either in the Northwest corner or the South wall.
  • There should be no toilets and bathrooms adjoining, and above or below the kitchen.
  • The door of the kitchen should never face the door of the toilet.

Vastu for Home Temple
  • Temple should be placed higher so that God feet must come to the level of devotee’s chest.
  • Keeping God’s idol which is more than 10 inches is considered inauspicious.
  • Always keep some insulation while praying or sitting in the temple such as mat or carpet.
  • Home temple is ideal in wood while marble constructed temples are also considered appropriate.
  • Wooden temples should always have dome at the top.
  • Do not keep temple on the floor directly because this means disrespect of Gods. Always lay some foundation before keeping the temple on it.
  • Dia in the temple should be lit in South-east.
  • Do no keep late ancestor’s picture in home temple because this way we only disrespecting God and cosmos.
  • Home temple should be ideally placed in North-east corner which is also known as Ishaan corner and alternative is East which means placing in East facing West.
